How tractor manufacturer Fendt makes processes more efficient and error-free

Maximum variety, maximum process reliability

Fendt, the high-tech brand in the AGCO Group, produces around 100 tractors a day at its Marktoberdorf site - each one configured from over 1,475 customer options. This enormous variety of products places the highest demands on logistics.

A key success factor: the precise provision of individual shopping baskets with up to 250 specific components per tractor - error-free, just in time, directly to the assembly line.

The challenge: paper-based processes and high manual effort

In the so-called "supermarket", where picking for production takes place, logistics employees previously worked with printed lists and manual shelf labels. Material numbers were matched visually - a source of error when part numbers were similar or storage locations changed.

The goal: digital, system-supported processes that minimize search times and errors, relieve employees and stabilize the production supply.

"Die Kombination aus dem aus dem DIGITALPICKER und der NIMMSTA Smart Watch ermöglicht uns eine durchgängig digitale und fehlerfreie Kommissionierung, die nicht nur den Materialfluss stabilisiert, sondern auch unsere Mitarbeitenden spürbar entlastet."

The solution: smart watches for error-free and ergonomic order picking

Fendt now uses the DIGITALPICKER, a digital worker guidance system for systematic control of the picking process, which Fendt developed together with INDUTRAX. The solution was supplemented by the use of NIMMSTA Smart Watches.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Step-by-step instructions: The Smart Watch shows the storage location, article number and quantity directly on the touch display.
  • Immediate feedback: Green means correct, red indicates a deviation - visually and acoustically.
  • Full freedom of movement: The scanner is ergonomically positioned on the back of the hand - ideal for large or heavy parts.
  • No paper, no media breaks: all information is digital, in real time, directly on the wrist.
  • The intuitive operation also allows new employees to familiarize themselves quickly without any intensive training.

The results: Efficiency, security, transparency

With the introduction of the NIMMSTA Smart Watches and the DIGITALPICKER, Fendt was able to significantly optimize order picking:

  • Error rate reduced
  • throughput times shortened
  • Bottlenecks reduced and processes stabilized

In the supermarket sector in particular, the combination of DIGITALPICKER and NIMMSTA has noticeably improved speed, safety and ergonomics.

Outlook: Scalable solution for further logistics processes

Following the successful launch, Fendt is already planning to extend the solution to many other specific areas of application in the production sector. The scalable architecture of the solution enables seamless integration of additional processes - digital, efficient, future-proof.

The complete use case will be published in the coming weeks.
